Mufti Ikram Ul Haq:
The holy month of Dhul Hijjah begins on Saturday September 3 2016
The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are extremely important and absolutely blessed to the extent that most scholar say the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah are no less important than the last 10 nights of the holy month of Ramadhan except the fact that in last nights of Ramadhan we also get to witness Laylatul Qadr.
Dear brothers and sisters, recognize and realize the value of these 10 days and nights of Dhul Hijjah and do not allow yourself to be deprived of its tremendous rewards.
Fasting is also Sunnah to be observed in the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah. Most important day for Fasting out of all these days is the day of Arafah which is the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah. Those who are observing Hajj should not observe Fast on this day. The reward of Fasting on the day of Arafah is the forgiveness of 2 years of sins.
This is also the time to prepare for offering of sacrifice during the 10, 11, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah.
Eid Al Ad'ha will be observed on Monday September 12 Insha'Allah
There are a few other important injunctions regarding these blessed which I will share soon Insha'Allah
May Allah bless this for all of us and accept the Hajj of all those who are gathering in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah
Important acts to be practiced in Dhul Hijjah
1- Hajj
Hajj is the most iconic ritual of the month of Dhul Hijjah. Hajj must be performed by those adult Muslim who are physically capable and financially able to to afford the cost of journey to Makkah. It must be offered at least once in lifetime by those meeting above requirements. Failing to perform Hajj when due, results in very severe warning against such a person.
2- Eid Prayer
On the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world should observe Eid prayers in their localities. Eid prayer is considered Wajib according to most scholars.
3- Ud'hiya/ Sacrifice/ Qurbani
Those Muslim who happen to possess wealth equal to the value of approximately 87 grams of gold in any form are obliged to offer sacrifice during the 3 days of Eid. Sacrifice can be made in form of either slaughtering a goat, sheep, cow or camel. Cow and camel can be shared by 7 people but goat and sheep can only offered on behalf of one person. On the day of Eid, it is not permissible for anyone to slaughter their animal of Qurbani until the Eid prayer has been offered. For those who live in a place where no Eid prayer is being offered anywhere nearby, may slaughter their animal after sunrise on the day of Eid. One is also allowed to have animal of Qurbani slaughtered in another place.
4- Takbeerat of Tashreeq
Takbeerat of Tashreeq are الله اكبر الله اكبر الله اكبر الله اكبر لا اله الا الله والله اكبر الله اكبر ولله الحمد
It is Wajib to say the above Takbeerat once after each Fardh prayer starting from the morning of 9th Dhul Hijjah until the end of Asr prayer of 13th Dhul Hijjah. This will be a five days long practice. Men should say it aloud whilst women should should say it in low voice.
5- Fasting for the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah
It is Sunnah to observe Fasting during first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah. 9th of Dhul Hijjah which is the Day of Arafah is the most important day of all these. The reward of each day of Fasting in these nine days is enormous. According to one Hadith, the reward of each day of Fastinf is equal to the reward of one year's Fasting. Fasting on the of Arafah is distinguished from the rest of the days as the day of Arafah is the most important day of the year in Islam. The reward of Fasting on the day of Arafah is forgiveness of 2 years of sins. Those who are performing Hajj should not Fast on the day of Arafah.
6- Avoiding cutting hair and clipping nails:
According to Umm Salamah Radiyallahu Anha, the Holy Prophet Sallallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam said: when the month of Dhul Hijjah begins and you have made intention of slaughtering an animal in Qurbani then do not cut your hair nor clip your nails".
Based on the above Hadith and several others, it is desirable for those planning to offer Qurbani to not trip their hair nor clip nails during the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah. On the 10th day, once their Qurbani has been offered, they may attend to this.

During these days and nights, one should recite the Takbir, Tasbeeh, Tahmeed in abundance as instructed by the holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam.
