Can you believe these Tallahassee lawmakers?

Islamophobes in the Florida state legislature think that the third time is a charm.

After we helped defeat anti-Shariah legislation in 2011 and 2012, Florida lawmakers Larry Metz and Alan Hays are at it again, peddling laws to restrict OUR religious freedom. This year the duo seem determined to push their legislation all the way. Even though, the House version of the bill, HB351 was one of the last bills filed, it is one of the fastest moving bills in Tallahassee.

The House Civil Justice Subcommittee just announced that they will vote on HB351 at their meeting this Thursday, February 7th. We need to ACT NOW to generate 1000 emails, by Thursday morning, opposing this legislature and we need your help to get it done.

How did HB351 make it on the agenda of the subcommittee this quickly? Representative Larry Metz the sponsor of the bill, also is the chair of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee.

These cleverly-worded bills focus on family law, but are targeted specifically against Muslims and impact the religious family laws of everyone—Muslims, Christians and Jews. If passed, these anti-Shariah laws would restrict and/or deny the use of religious law for matters involving marriage, divorce, and child custody.

Do not allow state legislators to use the politics of hate and foxy ploys to limit your religious freedoms. It was your support that defeated anti-Shariah laws in years past. In 2013, I need you to contact Florida lawmakers and send a message that prejudice and bigotry have no place in our country.
